5 Beaches to Visit on Oahu

As you may already know, Oahu is a great vacation destination that features so many exciting things to do. There are a ton of activities to fill your vacation, fun shows to attend, and of course, lounging on the beach. The beach and the ocean are one of the primary reasons why visitors flock to Hawaii, and on the island of Oahu, there are a number of beaches for you to visit, showing off the stunning beauty of the island and giving you a fantastic place to relax. We’ve narrowed our list of beaches to visit on Oahu to 5 of the very best on the island, sure to provide an unforgettable place to spend a day…or 5!

Waimanalo Beach
Located on the Windward Coast of Oahu, Waimanalo Beach might just be the most perfect beach in Hawaii. The powder white sand stretches for as far as the eye can see, the majestic Ko’olau Mountains tower behind the iconic Ironwood Trees, and the ocean is as blue as it gets. Conditions can be a touch rough when the winds is high, but there is something so special about a day at Waimanalo Beach.

Waimea Bay
Best known for the massive swells that arrive in the winter, Waimea Bay is an iconic beach that is found on Oahu’s North Shore. The crescent shaped cove is a favorite among locals and residents, and there might not be a better place to hang out when visiting the North Shore. There is limited parking, so if you’re heading to Waimea, head out early and reserve a spot on the sand. The summer months provide great ocean conditions for swimming and playing, and the shoreline rock is a favorite place for jumping. When the waves are up (in the winter), be sure to stay out of the water and exercise an abundance of caution.

Ala Moana Beach
Located right across the street from the Ala Moana Center, Ala Moana Beach Park is a great place for those traveling with young kids. There are walking paths on Magic Island, plenty of parking, shops and restaurants nearby, and the offshore reef provides protection from rough conditions, creating a great place for families to play and enjoy the water.

Sandy Beach
On the island’s South Shore, where the rocky coastline takes a break is Sandy Beach. This beach is a favorite amongst locals for its boogie boarding and body surfing. The shore break can be quite dangerous, so if you’re visiting, please exercise caution.

Sunset Beach
No list of beaches to visit on Oahu is complete without a place to view the sunset, making the clear choice Sunset Beach, found on the island’s North Shore. The name is fitting, considering the sunsets here are jaw dropping, and the beach itself is a great place to spend a day. Head up in the afternoon and bring dinner and refreshments to help make the sunset the absolute best experience imaginable.
